Paint pot in painterly can be worn on the eyes as a cream eyeshadow with a brown or taupe in the crease or can be worn as a eyeshadow primer also. I was in search of a very nude cream eyeshadow  for my lids which could work as a cream eyeshadow and as a n eyeshadow primer too. I had tried covering the darkness of my upper lid with a concealer and foundation but none of them worked for me, then I tried a lot of drugstore eyeshadow primers but that too didn’t do the job so this time when I was at Mac store I picked up the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly. Youtubers all over the world praise the paint pot in painterly a lot and all of them really love using paint pots as an eyeshadow base. I was eager to try the Urban Decay Primer Potion but as it was not readily available in India so I went ahead and grabbed the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly. Among the paint pots I had painterly and soft ochre in mind but after trying both of them I went for painterly as I liked it a tad bit more than soft ochre.

Packaging of the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

Paint pots come in a black Mac cardboard packaging with all the details about the product and its ingredients on it. Inside the cardboard packaging comes a small, clear heavy glass round tub with a screw lid on top. They are not travel friendly as they are a bit heavy to carry and you have to be careful while handling it because if you drop it, it might break. The MUA recommended me to close the screw lid tightly and she also advised me to store it upside down otherwise if it comes in contact with air for a long time the product may dry out.

Application of the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

The MUA at the Mac store applied it with a flat brush but I like to apply it with my fingers. I swirl my clean finger in the tub and pick up a good amount of the product and apply it to both my lids. I apply and blend this on my eyelids with my fingers. This way it gives me a very smooth and flawless base to work with. I have tried applying this with a brush also but the finish isn’t that smooth as compared to the finish that I get when applied with my fingers.

Shade of the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

Mac describes it as a nude beige colour. It  has a matte finish with no shimmer or glitter at all. I chose this colour over soft ochre because I preferred a pink toned base to brighten up my eyelid area. Soft ochre on the other hand has yellow undertones.

Texture of the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

The texture of the paint pot in painterly is creamy and buttery in texture and spreads nicely on the lids. It is a very smooth and light weight formula but you have to be very fast in blending this because once it settles down it is very difficult to blend it.

Pigmentation of the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

It is highly pigmented and covers any discoloration on the lids. One swipe of colour is enough to cover the eyelids.

Coverage of the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

One swirl in the pot is enough to cover any amount of darkness or the discoloration on the lids. Sometimes when I am in a hurry I also use it to conceal some darkness around my mouth and it does cover all the imperfections of the skin in a jiffy.

Staying Power of the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

This product has the most amazing staying power in the world. I apply my eyeshadows on paint pot as a base and they do not move a bit. They stay on my lids for as long as 10 hours. They do not cake or crease a bit even during the hot weather. It does not fade at all, the shadows stay vibrant till the evening as they appear in the morning. I feel paint pots work as a glue for the eyeshadows, really.

My Experience with the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly is a nude cream eyeshadow. There are two ways that I like to use the paint pot. I love wearing it as an eyeshadow base and I wear it as an all over lid colour too. It has become a part of my everyday makeup routine. It has a matte finish and works as a perfect base for the eye makeup. It is a pretty versatile paint pot because it is such a neutral shade. It covers your lid properly making it smooth and even for your eyeshadows to stick to it. It is a very smooth and creamy formula and it blends like a dream. Colours come out more vibrant and intense with painterly as a base. It does not crease or cake a bit. My eyeshadows last the entire day when applied on top of painterly. It is a cream based product but it dries out to a matte finish. I even apply it to my lower lash line to do a smokey look and my kajal does not move a bit because of the base.

It feels creamy when applied onto the skin, not grainy or chalky at all, spreads all over the lid easily but you have to be very quick in blending it because it dries up pretty soon. I love the colour of painterly as it compliments almost every skin tone. Kajals and liners that smudge on my lids and waterline like crazy stay in place all day long with painterly as a base.

It is a bit expensive but I take as an investment because a single pot will last you a long time because only a very small amount is required for covering up both the eyelids. Being a makeup junkie with sensitive eyes I had tried tons of eyeshadow primers but none of them worked for me but this one is pure magic. It is extremely lightweight and it does not feel gross or heavy on the lids. It conceals any veins or unevenness on my eyelids.

In the swatch you can see that the eyeshadow that has been applied without the base appears so dull and blackish in colour. This eyeshadow is from Dior so I can say that even high end eye shadows look so dark and dull without a base and they too require a base to give a enhanced look to their eye shadow  whereas when the same shadow is applied with painterly as a base it looks so much vibrant and looks exactly the same shade as it appears in the pan. Painterly brings out the exact colour of the eyeshadow and that is what I love about it.

Pros of the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

– Works great as an all over lid colour.

– Perfect eye shadow base.

– Gives a smooth finish to the eye makeup.

– Does not cake or crease at all.

– Eye shadows appear more vibrant when applied on top of painterly.

– Works well with mostly all skin tones.

– Amazing staying power.

– Highly pigmented.

Cons of the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

– The paint pot does not come with a spatula or an applicator, you have to dig in your finger to get the product.

– It is a drying formula so you have to be very quick in blending it out because if it sets down it is a task to blend it.

– Expensive.

– Glass packaging is not travel friendly.

Rating of the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly:

I would give it a full 5/5.

Would I repurchase the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly?
